Macerating Systems

Macerating Systems shred human waste and toilet paper and mix these wastes with the flushing water from the toilet. This fine slurry is then pumped away through a small diameter pipe that eventually ties into the main drain. This action allows these systems to be installed in those places where there is no gravity flow drainage.

Upflush Toilet Combinations

A macerator allows you to install the following combinations:

  • a toilet only
  • a toilet, hand basin
  • a toilet, hand basin and shower
  • a toilet, hand basin, shower and tub

Standards, Codes and Testing

Macerating systems are allowed by many plumbing codes in North America. Most, if not all, products comply with the proper macerating standard and are subjected by a national recognized laboratory to stringent testing procedures.

Macerating system technology

Macerating systems were invented in France in the late fifties. It appears that two technologies came to market almost at the same time. One called Saniflo, the other called Setma. Saniflo uses a rotating cutting blade and Setma uses a serrated impeller style. Both systems work equally well.
